Readings: the 'Fifties

Here is the tattered cover of the only issue I ever bought of a Mad Magazine knock-off called Cracked. The "humor" inside it is extremely lame. It is one of the few magazines and/or comic books from that era that have survived. Unfortunately. This is dated 1959:

Cracked wasn't always so lame, I bought it as a kid in the 70s when it was a lot better. However, it always trailed MAD in terms of writing, not art, etc.

Of course, once I discovered Monty Python and National Lampoon (magazine) in 6th grade, both MAD and Cracked went into the garbage.

True--there is no real gap between the drawing in Cracked and that in Mad. But even as a 12 year-old, I noticed the difference in satirical finesse.
