Quote du Jour

A quantum universe – neither random nor determined. A universe of potentialities, waiting for an intervention to affect the outcome.

Love is an intervention.

Why do we not choose it?

~ Jeanette Winterson, The Stone Gods

If one man fails to love, does that mean we all fail to love?

No. The novel this quote (and the other) are excerpted from is an intersting semi-SciFi take on the idea of the "eternal recurrence." The premise is that humanity has developed high-tech over and over again on successive planets, each of which he destroys (as we are destroying this one) before moving on to the next. This is not a new idea, of course, but she is a clever and occasionally very funny writer. I enjoyed the novel.

Oh, and I guess the idea is that a critical mass of love on the part of mankind, would have tipped the whole thing in the opposite direction, saving a planet from destruction and finally giving Man a permanent home.
