If there was one book that had the most influence on my love for literary fiction, back in my "formative years," it would have to have been The Catcher in the Rye.
J. D. Salinger and Howard Zinn both gone on the same day.

Just got home and saw the news sites. Sorry I never got to meet him considering all the damnable teachers and guidance counselors who kept referring to me as a "Holden Caulfied type" growing up and telling my parents they should read "Catcher in the Rye."
I haven't read it since Junior High. Guess I'll have to get reacquainted with my literary doppleganger.

You can read all four of his books in a week. Do it. You won't regret it.
I'll be on a plane tomorrow. Maybe I can get a copy at Borders before I leave (they did send me a 30% off coupon this week).
Still hoping to find another copy of the Rockwell Kent illustrated "Complete Shakespeare" from the 1920s (I used to own a copy). Things were easier in the pre-Ebay days, as Booksellers were more desperate to unload their wares. Now that they have the world at their fingertips, us shrewd collectors must haunt garage sales in posh neighborhoods for book bargains (lol).

Now that I think about it, I'll have to get there early, as you know there's always that "rush" to buy whatever item when a famous artist dies (as if there will be no more copies, ever).
In honor of Salinger, male discontents everywhere will drop their favorite ceramic 78 rpms on the sidewalk ...
Also, something good actually happened in Ohio today
