One gray night it happened, Mary Travers sang no more
And Puff that mighty dragon, he ceased his fearless roar.

Damn.
What a shame.
Thanks for posting this, Rob; I hadn't heard.
Some might view Mary Travers as the antithesis of "a patriotic American." They'd be wrong.
It doesn't matter if one is politically "Left" or "Right." What matters is intent.
It seems to me that the "intent" of a group like Peter, Paul, and Mary was always to stand up for their ideals present America as a nation striving to be better and a People striving to do right and get by - to live and to love.
I don't know Rob... probably this is the last thing you'd expect - a blog post by your Right Wing buddy Bill lauding Mary Travers, but here we are.
A little piece of America's ideals just died. And that makes me sad.
I am an introverted blue collar pilgrim, surviving near the center of the continent, on the fringes of a shopworn civilization. I abide in rooms full of partially-read tomes, each bookmarked with the fragment of a shattered illusion.
Everything which is inspired, heroic or saintly is derived from contemplation.

Thanks for the nice comment, Bill. This news made me very sad this morning. Sadder than I would have thought.
